- I think everyone has had a near death encounter on the bench press. Especially in the early days of working out when everything is all new to you. Because of that I guess I better warn those reading this to try for slow progression first. Unless going they are going for the forced rep approach.

I’m glad you like the post. Progression is without a doubt the most important thing. Even if it’s slow progression. Having a weight stuck on your neck surely is no joke, and that is why I like introducing unique ways to keep building strength. That is the back bone of increasing muscle mass!
I’m also glad you appreciate the dedication. I just hope everyone follows and applies that mentality to their workouts

Nice article Shaun…and I fail at this too…and know that I need to do
Looking at the video, this is my biggest fear and one of the reasons why working out alone is such a challenge…it may be funny to some, but having 150lbs land on your neck is no joke…and I don’t want to find out what that feels like.

I’ve had something similar happen to me once. I was benching something like 50 pounds way back when and after some reps I lowered the weights and couldn’t get the back up again. Very awkward…I’ve learned to pace myself since then. I gauge the weights on the first reps and see if I need to adjust…Sort of like “measure twice, try once”
