With so many resources at our fingertips, learning how to cook and even getting quite good at it has never been easier. All you really need is internet access, your phone some determination and you’ll become a decent cook in no time, even if you don’t have a particular knack for it. When you’re in doubt, ask the World Wide Web for advice, or even better turn to your favorite cooking app for help and suggestions. If you’re still unfamiliar with what these apps have to offer, there are some that cater to every level of aspiring cooking aficionados.

#1 Kitchen Stories

I like my cooking and recipe apps to be free, and one of the best ones other there is definitely Kitchen Stories. This app is perfect for all the entry-level cooking know-hows, but you can also find many neat tricks that could come in handy no matter how skilled you are. There are recipes for every palate and level of skill and you can easy bookmark and save them so that you come back to them whenever you like it. What I personally like the most about Kitchen Stories are the videos and photos because they describe in great detail what you’re supposed to be doing every step of the preparation, and that is invaluable for the beginners. If you hate putting together a shopping list, this app will do it for you and another neat trick they have is the ability to seamlessly convert measurements, which is always useful.

#2 Yummly

Think of this app as Google for recipes. Whatever kind of recipe you’re looking for, whatever your special needs are, be it to be high in protein, sugar-free or vegan, Yummly has got you covered. It’s very easy to find whatever it is you’re looking for, and it’s handier than regular browsers because it’s recipe-oriented. What’s special about this app is that the more you use it, the more it learns about your personal preferences, so with time, it’s able to recommend you some interesting new recipes that fit your taste best. Yummly is also practical because it’s got built-in Instacart, so when you’re extra lazy you can have your groceries delivered to your doorstep. If you’re not a fan of this delivery service, you can opt out for one of the so many others, I personally like Sun Basket recipes because not only will they give you fresh recipes every week but they will bring you all the necessary ingredients to your door, which saves money and time.

#3 Big Oven

This is one of the most popular cooking apps there is and for all the food reasons. The very best thing this app has to offer to its users is over 350,000 recipes to choose from and that alone is enough to be impressed. This is also one of the more social apps, so to speak because you’re able to connect with your friends on social media using the app to see what’s cooking with them. With Big Oven, you can save recipes from other websites quickly and easily thanks to its practical clipper tool. You’re also allowed to upload your own recipes, as well as photos of them, to better display your mastery and how the cooking process should look like, in case any beginners decide to give your recipe a go. The obvious downside of the Big Oven is the fact if you want to get all the goodies you have to pay $1.99 a month, which isn’t really cheap for a cooking app.

#4 Tasty Recipes

If you’ve got foodie tendencies, chances are you’re already following Tasty and all the wonderful work they do on Facebook. It was only a matter of time before they turned their passion and knowledge of food into an app and what’s best, it’s free. Here’s an app that is very easy to navigate, clean cut and you’ll get the best of it in a matter of few clicks. When you download the app, you gain access to recipes for every occasion and mood, and while videos are quite general and quick, recipes always give full details of how things should be done. Tasty is only becoming more popular with each passing day, that probably has something to do with their short, but effective way of showing how cooking can be easy and fun.

Use all the resources you can find when it comes to cooking and you can be sure you’ll be a bit better each day. These apps are but a tip of the iceberg but they’re excellent for getting your mojo on in the kitchen. – Vanessa Davis
