Athletes Changing the World of Track and Field

For sport in the UK 2012 was a special year, the British Olympic team show an outstanding performance and wins in the Tour de France too. With the London 2012 Olympic games being a distant memory, however in 2013 there has already been a Brit who has won Wimbledon, Tour de France and British athletes taking gold in the Wold Championships in Russia. Its looking like another great year for British sport.

With this in mind Premier Sport have decided to list the top 6 athletes making a difference in the track and field world.  The following athletes are having a major impact on the world of sport and helping to get UK back on the map in the track and field world and inspiring people to getting on those adidas running shoes and getting involved.

Here are our top 6 athletes making a difference:-

1 Mo Farah

Mo Farah shone in the London 2012 games taking both gold for the 10,000 and 5,000 metres. He has also recently taken Gold in the World Championships. This makes him the World and European champion. Go Mo!

2 Jessica Ennis-Hill

Jessica is the current Olympic heptathlon champion, the Sheffield born athlete was the face of London 2012. Jessica had to pull out of the World Championships due to an injury but there is still Rio in 2016.

3 Usain Bolt

Bolt is definitely making a difference not only on the track but the world of sport. Well he is the fastest man on the planet. The Jamaican superstar is not only a six times gold medalist, Bolt joined American Carl Lewis as the most medalled male athlete at the World Championships with 10. This makes Bolt the most successful athlete in the history of World Championships. Read here:

4 Chris Hoy

Sir Chris Hoy MBE has giving the world of track cycling a new lease of life within the UK. The multiple World and Olympic champion is the most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time.

5 Chris Froome / Bradley Wiggins

Last year it was Bradley Wiggins, however we had to put both of them on the list with Chris Froome as both have made a massive impact on the cycling world and worthy of been here. They have influenced many people around the UK to take up cycling and sporting a yellow jersey. Hopefully not the side burns sorry Bradley!

6 Tom Daley

This diver is one to watch for the future as he is only 19, however he has been gaining Gold’s in the World Championships in 2009 and took a Bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic games. He is a role model for the younger generation and certainly inspiring people to take up diving. He also has his own tv show Splash!
